About the Item

【Wool × Cashmere Corduroy – 滅びゆく織物への敬意】

一見、馴染み深い「コーデュロイ」。
けれど、これは “ただのコーデュロイ” ではありません。

使用しているのは、ウールとカシミヤという、コーデュロイとしては極めて稀なブレンド。
一般的な綿やポリエステル混とは一線を画す、しっとりと肌に寄り添うようなタッチと、起毛に宿る微細な光の陰影。
その佇まいは、カジュアルな印象を持たれがちな畝（うね）素材に、上品さと静かな緊張感をもたらします。

【“色の奥行き”を仕込む──先染めという選択】

さらにこの生地のもう一つの特異点は、先染め（プレダイ）であること。
一般的なコーデュロイは後染めが主流ですが、この生地は縦糸と横糸それぞれに別の色を染めてから織られています。

たとえば“midnight”カラーでは、タテ糸にブラック、ヨコ糸にブルーを配することで、
視覚と脳が協調して「ネイビー」として認識する──そんな奥行きのある色彩の錯覚が生まれます。

織りだけで、ここまでの深みを演出する手法。
非効率的で、コストのかかる染色と織りの設計であるがゆえに、現在ほとんど流通しないのが現実です。

【尾州から遠州へ──2つの織物産地を跨ぐ、生地の旅】

このコーデュロイは、尾州で織られた「生機（きばた）」を、静岡・遠州地方に移し、
“カッチング”＝ヨコ糸のループを切り、起毛を仕上げる工程を経て完成します。

しかしこの「カッチング」ができる工場は、日本でもわずか数社のみ──
必然的に、2地域に跨る生産体制を取らざるを得ません。

その手間とコストを背負ってでもこの生地を選んだ理由は、
「もはや絶滅危惧種と言っても過言ではない、純国産コーデュロイ」であるという事実にあります。

【“設計しすぎない”という設計──素材の構造を生かす形】

この唯一無二のテキスタイルを、最大限に引き立てるために。
デザインはあえて、直線と引き算で構成しています。

・地の目に忠実なパターンにより、畝（うね）の縦ラインをそのまま視覚構造に活かす。
・脇線まで直線的にとった長方形に近い設計。
・深めのタックで生まれるドレープが、センタークリースのような“縦落ち”を演出。
・シルエットはややワイドなストレートで、静かな迫力を。

こうして生まれたのは、過剰に主張しないが、ただものではない存在感。

【10年着るための設計──裏地へのこだわり】

そして、内側にももう一つのこだわりがあります。

汗や皮脂が直接表地に触れることによる繊維の劣化や摩耗を防ぐため、あえて裏地を設計。
使用したのは、レーヨン×コットン混の高級裏地。
肌当たりがやわらかく、温度変化にも強いため、冬場でも快適に着られる仕様です

Wool × Cashmere Corduroy – An Homage to a Disappearing Textile

At first glance, it may seem like a familiar corduroy.

But this is far from “just another corduroy.”

Crafted from an exceptionally rare blend of wool and cashmere, this fabric offers a soft, supple hand-feel and a fine, velvety nap—qualities that elevate it far beyond the casual expectations of traditional wale textiles. The delicate luster and light play across the surface imbue it with a quiet elegance and refined tension rarely found in corduroy.

Depth in Color – The Art of Pre-dyeing

Another defining feature lies in the dyeing process. While most corduroy fabrics are piece-dyed after weaving, this textile is yarn-dyed—each warp and weft thread individually colored before weaving begins.

Take, for example, the “midnight” color: black warp threads are interwoven with blue weft threads. The result? An optical illusion where the eye and brain read it as “navy,” revealing a remarkable depth and complexity of tone that can only be achieved through such a technique.

This approach is time-consuming, cost-intensive, and rarely seen in today’s textile market—making it a truly uncommon choice.

From Bishu to Enshu – A Journey Through Two Textile Regions

The fabric begins its life in Bishu, where it is woven in its raw form (known as kibata). It is then transported to Enshu, a region in Shizuoka Prefecture, where it undergoes “cutting”—a specialized process that slices the weft loops to raise the pile.

However, this cutting technique can only be performed by a handful of factories in Japan. The production must therefore span two regions, involving greater time, effort, and cost.

Yet this effort is intentional. As a genuinely domestically-produced corduroy—a breed now nearing extinction—we chose this fabric for its rarity and the craftsmanship it represents.

Minimal Design, Maximum Material Presence

To let the unique character of the fabric shine, we approached the design with restraint—guided more by subtraction than addition.
• The pattern respects the grain direction of the wales, aligning the lines vertically for visual clarity.
• Nearly rectangular panels, including the side seams, emphasize the linearity of the fabric.
• Deep center tucks create vertical drapes, evoking the appearance of center creases.
• A slightly wide, straight silhouette adds calm, understated volume.

The result is a piece that makes no loud statement, yet holds an undeniable presence.

Designed for a Decade – Inner Structure with Purpose

Durability was also key.

To protect the outer fabric from sweat and abrasion over years of wear, we added a lining—a rare choice for corduroy pants. We chose a luxurious rayon-cotton blend, soft to the touch and thermally stable, providing a comfortable experience even in colder months.

This is a piece designed not just for now, but for the years ahead.
